About Department Food Technology Department

The Department of Food technology was established in the year 2007. T.K.M Institute of Technology is the first Institute in Kerala offering B.Tech degree in Food Technology. Food Technology is the set of methods and techniques to the selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution and use of safe, nutritious and wholesome food. The Food Technology Department was established to provide technical education in field of Food Engineering & Technology. It caters to the technical manpower requirements at various levels by adopting a new concept of modular system in technical education with emphasis on practical training in industry. The curriculum and syllabus of B.Tech in Food technology was developed as per the changing needs of the food processing sector. The course empowers Food Technology graduates who are capable of developing and delivering innovative ideas, products, processes and machineries of international standards. Our mission is to research, design, and provide the best academic program and learning environment, possible for developing food technologist with active and creative minds for addressing the issue and challenges in the sector. The degree aims to produce highly employable graduates capable of translating theoretical knowledge in to applied solutions for today’s global food industry.

Our College TKM Institute of Technology

T.K.M. Institute of Technology was established by the T.K.M. College Trust and is located on a verdant 25-acre campus known as Musaliar Hills at Karuvelil, Kollam.

The T.K.M. Institute of Technology started functioning in the year 2002. The institute is approved by AICTE and is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

The Institute offers B-Tech programmes in six disciplines namely Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Food Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Two Post Graduate programmes in Computer and Information Science, VLSI and Embedded Systems.
